The Transforming Outcomes Data into Management Information Institute takes you through the steps required to plan and conduct a program of outcomes management and quality improvement. The three-day institute (does not include computer labs1) includes:

  • Extensive review of CARF standards on performance management and improvement (Section 1M. and 1N.), from the organization and surveyor perspectives
  • Performance indicator development to support your organization’s core mission and values
  • Outcomes system design and data collection
  • Demonstration on data exploration and analysis, comparative analysis, interpretation, and management reporting
  • Discuss strategies for data analysis and comparative analysis in an effort to conform to CARF standards
  • Opportunities for you to focus on specific issues or concerns within your organization
  • Identifying quality improvement (QI) ideas to propose action plans and support evidence-based decisions

The institute is recommended for individuals who design, manage, analyze, or interpret outcomes data in the health and human services fields, including Aging Services and Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), Behavioral Health, Child and Youth Services, Employment and Community Services, Medical Rehabilitation, and Opioid Treatment Programs. The institute is appropriate for executives and administrators, data analysts, and managers; directors of quality improvement; program managers; information management specialists; and direct service providers.

Sample outcomes data and off-the-shelf software are used to demo skills and techniques needed to develop an outcomes program consistent with the CARF standards. Participants will observe how data can be analyzed to yield management information for quality improvement. They will discuss strategies for data transformation and analysis in an effort to conform to CARF standards on performance measurement and management. There will be opportunities for them to focus on specific issues or concerns within their organization.

1This institute does not involve hands-on computer learning. If you’re interested in hands-on learning, there will be a lab component in the February Institute in Tucson, AZ.

Educational Objectives:  

  • An overview of how to use outcomes concepts and techniques as a tool to drive program decisions and improve business practice
  • How to set up and use a framework for evaluating your program’s performance
  • The overall processes and strategies for the collection and analysis of outcomes data

Since 1998, more than 50 sessions of the Transforming Outcomes Data into Management Information Institute were sponsored by CARF International. Over the past 28 years, thousands of participants have been trained and applied the skills learned to a quality improvement program in their own setting.
