Changes to the 2023 standards

CARF International hosted an Aging Services International Standards Advisory Committee that included both CCRC residents and personnel to review and update standards. Following a comprehensive field review process, changes were made in a variety of different areas, including:

Access to Wi-Fi and related service delivery via technology
Emergency preparedness planning for public health concerns
Addressing the well-being of workforce
Infection control, including vaccination, screening, and related education
Planning for “sustained emergency conditions” that address workforce shortages, expedited onboarding, use of essential caregivers, procurement, timely and transparent communication, collaboration, and ethical decision making

Which sections of the 2022 standards manual apply to CCRCs?

Please note that even if organizations do not have a survey conducted between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, they still are expected to conform to current standards, policies, and procedures. In addition as a surveyor, in order to remain current, please thoroughly review this new manual.

When does this manual go into effect?

This manual is used for all on-site surveys (originals and resurveys) occurring between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024.
If your organization is accredited but will not have a survey conducted between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, your organization should still conform to current standards, policies, and procedures. To remain current, please thoroughly review the manual.
